Very interesting! Thanks!
Worked for AB-Rockwell Automation from 1995 to 2001 and Crusader product line used these i960s as well as the IMC S-Class Compact S2xx-xx product line. Solid CPU. I use to service the IMC S-Class 202, 204, 212, 214, R, RL, 232, 234, R, and RL line with RIO and Axis Link that run under this i960 processor.
I have watched many videos about how to create an IC chip, and this is the easiest one to understand. Thank you.
I worked as Tom Gunter's Financial Analyst in the 1986+ timeframe when he was VP & GM of the Hi-End Processor Div. Most profitable in the Microprocessor Products Group (MPG), by far. Jack Brown was always upbeat & a delight to work with on their Marketing Budget. Just a fun guy Under Bob Rivet, VP Finance, I worked as the Mgr of Financial Analysis & Planning doing all the Budgeting, Forecasting & Fin'l Consolidations for the MPG. I had the distinct pleasure of working directly with Dr. Goldman (simply Murray and wonderfully approachable). He smoked a pipe at the time and I would approach Murray with different financial equations attempting to forecast & graph trends for our Group correlating to macroeconomic trends. I remember the time I was trying to solve a multivariable equation and Murray delighted puffing on his pipe to evaluate different solution to fit my forecast model. Simply, Murray. The best, was when we did Capital Budgeting in 1987-88. 20 Managers in a room, bottoms-up requests were for $1.8B+ & our target was $1.1B. So in 3 hours, we all listened to each of the Managers stating their needs, Murray puffing on his pipe, arguing back & forth and 3 hours later we redlined down to a $1.1B Capital Budget. A wonderful group of hardworking Engineer Execs, traveling relentlessly to Japan & Europe & elsewhere touting the benefits of the 68K. Murray, Tom G, Jack Brown and the rest were great to work with in Austin, TX. Thank you guys and hope all are well. RIP Gary Daniels & Ron Racino. -- Dave Zeleniak

I appreciate these interviews as they fill in so many little details about the historical moments of the past that give context to the development of digital technologies.
They must have felt like magicians back then.
Started my career in 1972 at Fairchild, went to National in 1973 and then to AMD in 1982.
For my taste ,the lady is too much self-absorbed: she derails the conversation and provides little factual information. I need to read the books by Kevin Driscoll, though! He brings a lot of knowledge to this conversation: knowledge which is based not just on his own experience but on a wide research. He delivers it in a stoic fashion. Thank you for taking effort of organizing and sharing the convo with the public! CHM for the win!

27:04 Oddly, the protected mode "hardware" task switching features of the 386 (assuming Linus is talking about the call gate mechanisms supported through h/w on the 386) that he so admired are a feature that could be exploited to facilitate a microkernel architecture. But as Linus mentions, time has tested this architectural idea and rendered a verdict.

Boris, I'm not kidding! I have no idea if we are divorced or not, but I'm SCARED when googling my name providing my not only adrees in Manhattan, but up to the unit even priced!? Please Back of with "Givert's structure" and let me be.
Are software revisions or its other bigger cousins - "versions" - the same as evolution? I mean, how are we going to determine, for example, that version John 1 is not the same as version John 2, especially when we are talking about the same John? Persons? And if indeed there are revisions or other versions, wouldn't that make us talk of different or distinct persons? Aren't complex systems more than the sum of their parts? (I don't know... 🤷)

This video was just awesome. It just puts everything into perspective. And makes the somewhat unbelievable and magicly unreal aspect of how computers work to showing us that it works that way because thats how we want it to.

C++ was the first language I learned when I was 17. I didn't know it was supposed to be hard. I just knew it seemed to be the latest thing in programming. I ended up a C++ consulting developer writing many large systems. Looking back, I see it as a language that takes time to become fully competent with but over unmatched flexibility and ability to adapt to any problem space. I still love and respect it today. It seems timeless to me. Such power available but able to be hidden away when desirable. I don't think I would have the career I have first had it not been invented.
